Our standard bike insurance policies offer more coverage and benefits than other typical providers.
If your bike gets damaged either in an accident, or maliciously, then you will be automatically covered. The extent of the damage will determine if your bike is repaired or replaced.
Stolen bikes are the most common cause of bike loss. This is why bike theft is included as part of our standard cover, provided you use an approved lock and meet our security requirements.
If your new bike is stolen or damaged beyond repair, it will be replaced with a new one of similar value and specifications. Second-hand bikes are covered at market value, considering depreciation and condition.
A standard policy includes cover of up to £100 for accessories; if you want a higher value of cover, the amount covered can be increased up to £2,000.
Items defined as accessories include clothing, safety equipment like helmets, technology such as cameras intended for cycling, mudguards and saddle guards.
Our standard policy extends to cover your family members. Family means your parents, spouse, partner, children or siblings (aged 12 years or over) that permanently reside with you at your home address.
Please note, personal accident cover only applies to family members older than 16 and younger than 70. Public liability only covers members of your family over 16 and under 85.
Under our standard policy, you are able to insure multiple bikes. For each bike you add to your policy beyond the first, you will receive a discount. There is no limit to the number of bikes you can have on a policy, and these can be added and removed at any time in the policy year.
With our optional extras, you can tailor your policy and enhance your coverage.
This add on means the cost of hiring an alternative bicycle, up to £500, whilst awaiting the repair or replacement of your current bike is covered.
The bike must be hired from within the UK and from a reputable company. The cost only covers the bike that is the subject of an approved claim.
Our optional bicycle breakdown cover means that if when riding your bike, it sustains a mechanical or structural fault and cannot be ridden any further, we will cover you up to £350 for the cost of getting you home, to a repair shop, a train station, a car hire company, or a hotel.
Public Liability protects you against claims brought on by a third party (the other person involved in the claim that is not you) as a result of damaging their property or injuring them. There are two coverage options, £1 million and £2 million.
You can choose a benefit amount of either £10k or £25k to be paid in the event of you or your family member suffering death, loss of limbs, loss of sight or permanent total disablement whilst using the bike on the policy.
Adding this means the legal costs to pursue or defend incidents that may occur relating to your bike will be covered.
Our legal expense protection includes legal advice for the following: personal injury, damage to bicycles or cycle equipment, defence of cycling offences, cycling contractual disputes. You are also eligible for 24-hour legal advice and counselling helplines.
If you want to cover more than £100 of accessories, you can purchase additional cover to insure up to £2,000.
Our standard policy covers you in the UK. If you are planning on cycling abroad, you can select worldwide cover.
We offer three different durations: 30, 60 and 90 days, and you can take as many trips abroad in your chosen time frame as you wish.
If you participate in competitive cycling events or sportives, you should select ‘competitive use’.
This means that if you cannot attend a race, your entrance fees will reimbursed. Additionally, if your bike is damaged or stolen within a transition area this will be covered too.
If you use your bike as part of your commute you should select ‘commuting use’ and your bike will be covered to and from work.
A common question cyclists ask is, ‘is bicycle insurance worth it?’
In 2023, there were around 15,000 reported cycling related casualties.
Cyclists are vulnerable, road or trail. We expose ourselves, and our bikes, to accidents or theft each time we cycle.
With bicycle insurance you can safeguard both you and your bike so you can have peace of mind knowing you’re protected if the unexpected does happen.
People assume their home insurance provides enough coverage for their bike but this might not always be the case.
Home Contents insurance is great for general household protection but it often falls short when it comes to covering bicycles. In addition, making a claim on your home insurance might see you pay a high excess, followed by increased premiums and loss of any no claims discount.
Cover4Cycles’ specialist bicycle insurance is designed specifically for cyclists, offering broader and more tailored coverage.
Comprehensive Cover: Cover4Cycles covers your bike for accidental damage – even whilst being ridden, and for theft away from home – including when securely locked at a rack (up to 12 hours, or 24 at a train station), provided security requirements are met.
High Value Protection: Cover4Cycles covers bikes up to £15,000 and includes cover for permanently fixed components.
Public Liability: Cover4Cycles allows you to add this coverage which protects you if you injure someone or damage someone’s property whilst riding.
For your cycle insurance policy to remain valid, you must properly secure your bike.
Wherever you keep your bike, whether at home, in a communal area or away from home, you must secure it through the frame with a correctly rated, approved lock to an object that cannot easily be moved.
Communal areas must be accessible only to residents and their guests. Private garages and sheds must be within the boundaries of the insured location specified on your policy, and be made of brick, stone, concrete timber or metal. This includes bike storage boxes.
If you cannot lock your bike to an immovable object within your garage, shed or bike storage box, then the door must be locked with one of the following: a multi-point locking system, 5 lever mortice deadlock, a 5-lever padlock.
When storing your bike away from home or the insured location, it must be secured to an immovable object with an approved lock through the frame. It cannot be left for more than 24 hours otherwise it will be classed as abandoned.
